prayer café

well well well.

concluded a manic week of busy times with an excellent weekend, beginning with a night out at the guildhall. Dan's band, big blue sun played at 'acoustica', an event hosted by Al who often frequents feig feasts.

It was a brilliant night, not least because the supporting act; a mad fun guy called Thomas Truax made everyone laugh quite a bit. His style is, well, it's probably best to follow the link and find out for yourself! Dan's band was the highlight though, great tunes, great night.

Amongst other things, we finally started a prayer café thing with re:Fresh. The idea is to bring groups together to help make a space for Christian youth to 'be in the presence of friends, God, coffee and cake'. Friday was a trial run, and it was a difficult one. spent lots of money, hardly anyone turned up and it took over 2 hours to set up! But it was a good time for those of us who were there. This week will be a lot easier now we know what we're doing and word is getting out there.

Personally, its hard battling with this stuff again and again, only to see a handful of people committed to things. But we try and try again. For me, unity is such an important issue for the church in these days, and there's so much that can be acheived when the young people of our congregations get together and become friends.

In many respects, if feels like I need to start over in making connections with youth leaders and their church leaders to get this back on the priority list.

For the cafe idea though, there's no agenda save the fact that we want to give young people a chance to hang out together, and hang out in a 'holy place' with prayer stations and things scattered around. There's no plans for any programme or any activities yet. We want to see what happens naturally out of those who come along and make it their own.

It's got great potential and its very exciting. Just got to 'press on towards the goal', as Tim wisely commented on my previous post.
