I mentioned that i'm getting buzzed about herrnhut before...
you know the whole 100 year nonstop prayer meeting thing that happened in that place was started by just 24 men and 24 women? 48 people were able to achieve non-stop prayer in a community of only 32 houses. small groups (called bands) brought people of similar age, gender and marital status together - and they met three times a day to pray for one another. once a week they would read letters from friends and family elsewhere to fuel their constant prayer and practise of the Lord's presence. sundays were committed to nonstop sung worship from 5am-9pm, with open house during the afternoon to welcome visitors and pilgrims. those in the community had conventional jobs, started their own industries, traded, grew their own food and provided for those who were in need. this happened for five years before they started to launch missionaries out of the village, some 3000 within 200 years, to all classes of all kinds of people groups across all continents of the world.
i find this hugely inspiring. and incredibly challenging. if fighting groups of refugees can commit to unity and see this happen, surely we can see something incredible happen in our day? surely?!
