Earlier this week Bishop John came over and joined the community gathering for puddings and prayer. what an awesome guy. Someone mentioned to me afterwards ‘it was like he was just one of us’. we shared the scriptures together and he lead us through some lectio divina on Colossians 3, which was amazing because we’ve been reading Colossians during our meal times here. Would love to use lectio divina more often; it gets everybody talking and listening together, listening and sharing the heart of God.
From there, we walked around the house, entering each room and praying. Bishop John lead the house blessing prayers, which were powerful, encouraging, humbling, and comforting.
The words he prayed for at the door of the house were awesome, here they are:
May the door of this home be wide enough to receive all who need human love and friendship.
May it welcome all who have cares to unburden, thanks to express, hopes to nurture.
May the door of this house be narrow enough to shut out pettiness, pride envy and enmity.
May it’s threshold be no stumbling block to young or to strained feet.
May it be too low to admit complacency, selfishness, and harshness.
May this house be for all who enter, the doorway to your eternal Kingdom.
Amen.
