how do you get unity?

I made reference a little while back to how people living in common unity were known as living in community with one another. I've been quite unwell this week, and in my little fever's and much lack of sleep, the idea has gone round and round in my head. And, eventually made an interesting development...

For some reason, I felt uncomfortable with the word community. And I realised that in community, there's still room for boxes. Your box. My box. Still room for seperation. For a long time unity has been about working together to create some kind of togetherness. But true unity should get rid of the boxes, not stick them together. I think the word 'union' is pretty good. I think it gives the impression of a state of being, not something you enter into when you choose.

And its funny that common union, would turn into 'communion'. Communion obviously has its alternative meanings. But researching it, the term communion was given to the Lords Supper because it was a reminder of the relationship that Christians had with Christ and each other.

Paul writes to the corinthians: 17Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.

Thats interesting hey? Especially as Jesus prayed for us to 'be one'. One in Him, and One with each other. This is something that is not only lived out, but it is a way of living. There's a lot to be learnt here. On my part at least. I think the prayers of Jesus are massively relevant today in ways that we might not understand. But definately there to be reclaimed.
