Bishops: final day...

Today Nina, the art teacher gave me some photos she’d taken of the room yesterday. i’ve lost the lead for my phone so unfortunately haven’t been able to upload anything yet! Hope you enjoy these few…

If you’re a friend of mine on facebook then I’ve added an album with more there.

Today ended really nicely. This feels like a strange word to say. But it’s the right one. We welcomed friends and new people to the prayer room during break and lunch, and the whole day was pretty relaxed.

The school is hectic out there, and someone start the fire alarms before break, but in here, there’s a great sense of peace. One of the guys who acted up on Monday turned up again, but not to mess around, but to come and say sorry. Four days later. This was awesome. He came back at lunch and talked with Helen as she helped him make a friendship bracelet. He said the idea of God being his friend made him feel “safe”.

The day was littered with these special moments and conversations, some students sad that this was the last day of prayer week, others asking us to come back quickly. Cool things in the guestbook too:

“I love this room I could stay in here forever and ever... I really would like this to happen every single day.”

After school we always like to find a way of saying thank you to the staff. So, as in previous prayer weeks, we’re putting on a little party in here. Today I’ve been out and bought loads of pancakes for everyone. Should be fun.

This week has been great. A tough one for the school, for staff and students, but it’s been brilliant to have a prayer space right in the middle of the chaos going on everywhere else. It’s been great to have other guests come as well, especially to have prayer groups and helpers come from Redcliffe bible college. I spoke with two students today about maybe doing a week there as well. Like many, they’d come in a little sceptical, but left having met with God. They cried at the communion table. A jon foreman song filled the air as they prayed, and the words of the chorus written below sum up the week well. God is love, his love is a home for all who long to rest in it’s shade, its Him that makes these weeks so special, so worth the effort, so full of intrigue, excitment, and awe.

Build me a home Inside your scars
Build me a home Inside your song
Build me a home
Inside your open arms
The only place I ever will belong
