quakes...

Recently, there have been a fair few situations, which you'd be right in saying have gone through their own earthquakes recently. I was reading that during one of the 24/7 tour events people were praying for God to shake the church, to shake the world. And, to us, these are metaphorical shakings. And, something that's very real at the moment...but little did I know, whilst lying awake chatting to my wife about a crazy long meeting that finished at 12.30am, that a physical earthquake would actually happen!

Rarely, has the metaphorical state of things be so precisely represented by a physical act!

It was cool. But strange.

Anyway. In the midst of this shaking, we are looking for the next stage in many areas. Hope08 is looking forward to events over Easter, Refresh is redefining itself as a community that is alive and active every day, the flicker prayer event group are looking to the next event in June/July, City Gates are seeking God on fresh ways forward. Jobs, decorating, gardening, income, travel methods are all on the verge of the next stage. You question yourself - what's going to happen? how do I fit in? do I have the skills/ability to enter the new stage? will I fail? what will happen to my friends? will I be happy? will others be happy with me? etc. It can seem a little overwhelming at times.

However, I read - or dreamt (!) recently about this very thing. And I'll paraphrase its point:

"You are never capable of the next step; If you had already attained those qualities, or reached those goals, or gained that potential then it wouldn't be the next step. It would be a part of who you are now. The next step always requires growth, always requires change, always requires those leaps of faith into the things that are yet unknown."

I like that.
