more quotes

It's been a good week to relax a little and reflect on last week's hope08 activities. Good to take time with things and not be rushed by a looming long and urgent 'must' do list. gaining a fresh perspective on how we ask God questions, on re:Fresh and what it'll look like in the future, learning more of healthy work patterns; i.e., take a break, an honest audit of my great need to read more scripture and pray more succinctly and not just in moments of distress or when it fits; i.e. gaining a pleasing taste for liturgy, the desire for study has also been stirring again.

Anyway I have some more quotes to share, this time a lot more challenging and inspiring.

"how can we worship a homeless man on Sunday, and ignore one on Monday?"
- on a talk with Shane Claibourne. a dude.

"A Christian fellowship lives and exists by the intercession of its members for one another, or it collapses."
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer is an absolute legend. I think he could be quoted for years.

And finally...

"We have never preached violence,
except the violence of love,
which left Christ nailed to a cross,
the violence that we must each do to ourselves
to overcome our selfishness
and such cruel inequalities among us.
The violence we preach is not the violence of the sword,
the violence of hatred.
It is the violence of love,
of brotherhood,
the violence that wills to beat weapons
into sickles for work."

- Oscar Romero: the Violence of Love (I randomly came across this today and noticed you can download the book for free here. Have yet to read it though, so can't recommend it before I do, but I liked the quote.
